A new public safety building in Phenix City is now open! With a new name and multiple new additions, this building houses many important city departments.

About the new public safety building

On June 30th, the city announced the opening of the new public safety building with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Phenix City Mayor Eddie Lowe told reporters, “We have grown, we continue to grow, and this is an indication of our growth, and we’re very excited to have it here.”

This comes after four years of planning and renovating, which began in 2019.

Changes to the new public safety building in Phenix City include additional space for the city council chambers, the expansion of the municipal court, which is now located downstairs, and new offices.

The new building will also house the administrative staff offices for both the Phenix City Police and Fire Departments.

Along with the new additions, an emotional dedication took place at the ribbon cutting ceremony in honor of Assistant Chief of Police Gail Green, who passed away in 2020. The city hall portion of the building is named in her honor. Green was a big part of the planning process for this new building and she will now be one of the first faces you see when visiting.
