More on Highside Market
It’s not just a shopping center! Called a “community destination” by its developer, Highside Market will feature 55,000 square feet of retail, restaurants, office space, greenspace, rooftop decks—the list goes on! Plans for the upcoming Highside Market in Columbus also include a gorgeous 7,000-square-foot urban park. From eating outside to gathering with friends, it will brighten everyday life in the city.
The former Regions Bank building and the old Ray’s Body Shop will be renovated as part of the project. A new building will be constructed in between the two existing ones to add to the space.
Developed by Chris Woodruff, Highside Market will bring big plans to our town in the next month or so. According to its proposal, it will include other draws like:
- A bakery;
- Retail stalls;
- A bar in the basement;
- Gallery space;
- Two dine-in restaurants;
- And more.
Giving Back
A healthy economy means a happy community. Not only will the new development and added jobs improve life around Columbus, but the arrival of Highside Market will include another benefit. The venue will function as Tax Allocation District, according to development plans.
So, that means anyone shopping at the market will end up giving back to the community! How? Essentially, the plan will funnel taxes into the city. Sounds like another great reason to shop local!
In the News: Market Murals
Staying connected to our history has an influential impact on our present—and our future. With the help of street artist R.C. Hagans, Woodruff decided to add some art to Highside Market. They decided to depict a young boy—one who grew up to become a champion of equality.
Created with a stencil and a public domain image, the mural depicts a nine-year-old Martin Luther King Jr. His image repeats across the brick wall 70 different times. It’s a great tribute to someone who strove to change our country for the better. Hopefully, it can also inspire those among us to make a positive impact on the world too.
The mural won’t grace the wall forever! Try and see it soon.
